A new set of rules will be going into effect in April it seems for those that want to marry and stay here in South Korea.
- earn at least 14.8 million won a year
- prove their language proficiency by passing the Level 1 Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)
- couples who can communicate in languages other than Korean will also be exempted
- multicultural couples already have children, they will be granted exemptions for “humanitarian reasons.”

It seems to be a reasonable step towards curing those 5-day arranged marriages. Not a perfect setup but reasonable it seems.
